Carved in Eskişehir from genuine block meerschaum, Freehand No. 49 is a single, unrepeatable meerschaum pipe.
The lattice subject is worked across the bowl, with freehand and ornamental detailing carried around the piece.
Block meerschaum is a hydrous magnesium silicate mined near Eskişehir. It is soft enough to take fine detail when freshly worked and hardens as it dries, which is why this kind of relief carving is possible at all.
