About the Santa Claus collection
There is an obvious pleasure in carving Santa Claus from a stone that is already the colour of a white beard, and the subject makes the same demands as any portrait piece — the beard has to be cut deeply enough to throw shadow, and the face has to carry expression at small scale.
This is a single-piece collection at present. As with everything in the catalogue, the piece is one of a kind and cannot be reproduced exactly; a commission can be carved in the same spirit if the piece is no longer available.
