Dragon Meerschaum Pipes

Scaled, clawed and coiled work in white stone. Dragon carvings ask for sustained detail across the entire surface — scales that stay regular around a curve, and limbs that have to be undercut to read as separate from the body.

About the Dragon collection

A dragon is a carver's set piece. It demands everything at once: repeated scale texture that must stay even as it wraps a form, undercut limbs and wings so they stand clear, and a head with enough character to carry the whole object. There is nowhere on the piece where the work can relax.

The scale texture is the giveaway. On a properly carved piece it continues around the back and underside at the same density, following the curve of the body rather than flattening out where the camera would not normally look. Every piece in this collection is photographed from all sides so that can be checked.

This is a small collection — dragon work takes considerably longer than most subjects, and it needs a sound block large enough to allow the undercutting without weakening the walls.

Common questions

Why are dragon pipes more expensive than plain forms?
They take substantially more carving time and require a larger, flawless block to allow deep undercutting. Pricing for a specific piece is confirmed by the atelier on enquiry.
