Lion No. 39 is a one-of-a-kind meerschaum pipe, carved by hand at the White Earth Atelier workshop in Eskişehir, Türkiye.
Lion carving runs across the bowl and shank, cut from the same block rather than applied to it.
Block meerschaum is a hydrous magnesium silicate mined near Eskişehir. It is soft enough to take fine detail when freshly worked and hardens as it dries, which is why this kind of relief carving is possible at all.
